Apprentice Level 1
Required Knowledge:
- Understands basic tools (brush, roller, screwdrivers… etc.)
- Understands difference between Alkyd and Latex paint
- Understands importance of masking and protection of surfaces
Required Skills:
- Always maintains professional attitude on the job site
- Always maintain professional appearance (laundered uniform)
- Arrives on time to job site
- Has high degree of honesty and personal integrity
- Has a good work attitude - works hard and effectively

Apprentice Level 2
Required Knowledge (all previous levels plus):
- Knowledge of different types of masking tape and their use
- Able to identify hazardous materials and knows proper storage
- Knowledge of proper disposal of hazardous waste materials
- Knowledge of safety program items, such as
- Ladder safety
- High work safety requirements
- Required posters, company policy & fall protection
- Knowledge of basic substrates (wood, g.w.b., side lites… etc.)
Required Skills (all previous levels plus):
- Mask interior and exterior residential projects
- Protect with drop cloths, etc, interior & exterior residential Projects
- Immaculate clean up skills
- Maintain clean and properly stocked work area (store materials)
- Simple brush and roll techniques
- Scrape the surface to a sound substrate without damage
- Ability to feather sand leaving little or no profile
- Proper putty and caulking techniques for interior & exterior work
- Practices proper disposal of trade related garbage
- Removal and replacement of shutters, down spouts and gutters
Apprentice Level 3
Required Knowledge (all previous levels plus):
- Complete knowledge of proper painting tools and their respective use
- Knowledge of different types of wall covering & can identify each
- Knowledge of airless spray equipment components and maintenance
- Knowledge and practice of proper brush and roller equipment maintenance
- Understanding of all substrate terms (wainscot, soldier course… etc.)
Required Skills (all previous levels plus):
- Safely handling ladders up to 40 feet
- Ability to cut clean lines for brush and roll work
- Good rolling skills for flat, eggshell, and semi gloss paint materials
- Good brushing skills for detailed trim work
- Good finished product for painting windows and doors
- Perfected wood preparation (caulk, putty and sand)
- Good window glazing skills
- Perfected wall surface preparation (spackle & putty)
- Perform a few basics of wall covering removal without damaging walls
- Power wash without substrate damage
- Chemical injection power washing - correctly with proper formulas
- Effective pot tender activities (airless spraying - back up)
- Consistent on perfect cleaning of airless spray equipment
Apprentice Level 4
Required Knowledge (all previous levels plus):
- Knowledge of proper use and safety with power tools (grinders… etc.)
- Knowledge of how an airless pump works and it's components
- Knowledge of how pressure washing equipment works & components
- Knowledge of scaffolding set up, tear down and safety requirements
- Knowledge of site specific accident prevention program requirements
- Knowledge of the professional "Chain of command" in construction
Required Skills (all previous levels plus):
- Good drywall hole repair and taping basics
- Ability to do a good skim coat for smooth wall finish
- Good airless spray skills with latex materials
- Good skills with power sanders, grinders, saws and other power tools
- Consistent high quality brush and roll work (perfect every time)
- Good skills with pressure washing equipment in difficult situations
- Set up and tear down of platforms/scaffolding
- Consistent use of safety gear (respirators, dust masks, gloves… etc.)
Painter Careers
Required Knowledge (all previous levels plus):
- Complete knowledge of all safety requirements (company & legal)
- Complete knowledge of M.S.D.S. & Tech. Data sheet purpose & use
- Basic knowledge of job costing
- Basic knowledge of dispute resolution techniques
Required Skills (all previous levels plus):
- Able to develop a good rapport with customers
- Able to perform the pre-job meeting with the customer
- Able to estimate & prepare additional work orders & have customer sign them
- Able to estimate small jobs (up to $1500)
- Consistently brings jobs in on or under budget
- Ability to correctly fill in all job forms
- Ability to train others on all the basic painting skills
- Good floating / tape and bed skills
- Complete confidence with airless spray techniques & trouble shooting
- Good skills with alkyd materials using fine finish tip airless spray
- Excellent drywall repair, tape and texture skills
- Basic skills for wall covering installation
- Basic carpentry (window sill replacement, installing wood trim, simple
- Able to collect interim and final payments
Required tools:
- A vehicle capable of caring job sight equipment
- Basic carpentry tools (see list)
- Basic mechanic tools (see list)
Crew Leader
Required Knowledge:
- Complete knowledge of paint chemistry (vehicle, binder, pigment… etc.)
- Good knowledge of estimating, and good trade math understanding
- Complete knowledge on how to lay out a job, including: material requirements, labour requirements, scheduling requirements, and equipment requirements
- Ability to train others on all the basic painting skills
- Advanced job scheduling & construction process
Required Skills:
- Complete knowledge of paint chemistry (vehicle, binder, pigment… etc.)
- Good knowledge of estimating, and good trade math understanding
- Complete knowledge on how to lay out a job, including: material requirements, labour requirements, scheduling requirements, and equipment requirements
- Ability to collect interim and final payments
